It follows news that striker Ben Pope and defender Gary Elphick are also committing to the cause as the Us set about putting behind them the disappointment of missing out on promotion in this null and void season. They have also signed ex-Dartford forward Max Walsh.

A Hastings statement said: "We are incredibly happy to announce that club captain Sam Adams has committed to the Us for the 2020-21 season.

"The word legend should never be overused but in Super Sammy Adams’ case it’s deserved. The club captain has notched up 558 appearances including 139 goals, making Sammy one of Hastings United’s top appearance makers in the club’s history."

Adams said: “With the management team we have at this football club I had no doubts to continue. We have unfinished business and I am here to play my part in taking this club to the next level. To add to my 558 appearances will be an honour and I cannot wait to get started again."

Chris Agutter, first team manager, said, “Sammy is a leader of men and, much like Gary Elphick and Popey, is a core part of our winning environment. On and off the pitch Sammy has a huge impact a the club, a club legend who is a privilege to work with.”

"While the club means the world to Sammy, Sammy means the world to the supporters, staff, management and board. Sam Adams is Hastings in a nutshell and so valuable to our core culture. The attitude, passion and class he shows on that pitch should spur on the next generation.”
