In this 100th year since the founding of Lions Clubs International, the Lions Club of Hastings has once again been proud to lead the organisation of the Hastings Half Marathon, now in its 33rd year.

Although first place went to Ben Fish of Blackburn Harriers & AC with a commanding lead, second place and a further five of the first ten places in the race were taken by local runners; a fantastic achievement.

Over 3,300 entered the Half Marathon, and there were 124 young people in the Mini Run this year. All who took part had to battle with a ferocious head wind on the final length along the seafront which tested even the most seasoned runners.

As always, the Half Marathon has only been possible with the support and efforts of a large army of helpers, comprising individuals, many local voluntary and service organisations, Hastings Borough Council and businesses to all of whom I extend our thanks.

Thanks are due also to the many thousands of family, friends, residents and entertainers who came out to cheer on the runners around the course lending encouragement that I know is much appreciated by the runners.

Hopefully we will see you all again for the 34th Hastings Half Marathon to be held on Sunday, March 18, 2018.
