Intruders broke in at around 7.20pm and searched the property on Havelock Road, as if looking for something in particular.

A 44-year-old Hastings man was arrested on suspicion of burglary and possessing cannabis and bailed until September 2, while enquiries continue.

Alarms sounded both inside and outside the offices and police believe it was still light enough for passers-by to have seen activity within the premises.

PC Mitchell Humby, of the Hastings neighbourhood response team, said: “There is every chance somebody saw or heard something and we’re keen to speak to them.

“There is also a taxi rank directly opposite the premises, and again we’d like to talk to any taxi-drivers who may have been parked there at the time.”
