Town is starting to look like a tip

I have never written to your newspaper before but felt on this occasion I had to put pen to paper.

I regularly read letters from readers about ‘dirty dogs’ and dog fouling in the town.

I agree this is a problem but is not the fault of the dog but the owner (most dog owners are responsible and clean up after their dogs).

As is usually the case it is the lazy, ignorant owners who have no respect for others or their surroundings that cause this problem. These will no doubt be the same people who discard copious amounts of litter on the street, but nobody seems to complain about that.

Last month I joined the Ore Valley Greenway walk. I was utterly disgusted at the vast amount of litter lining the route, in particular along Farley Bank. Ore village is also awash with rubbish due to people dumping their fast food packaging, cans and plastic bottles.

School Road is another bad area along with the Halton flats where the skips outside are regularly overflowing with rubbish, including soiled nappies, food etc, which lies in the grounds and on the pavement. I regularly have to pick my way through it when I walk to work. The whole town is starting to look like a giant rubbish tip but I never seem to see a letter in your paper complaining about that.

Perhaps if the streets were cleared of all the litter people might feel inclined to take more of a pride in their surroundings.
