Bin and washing machine fires overnight in Hastings

Firefighters had a busy evening in Hastings as blazes in a bin and a washing machine were attended to in the town last night (Monday, April 11).

One East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service appliance from The Ridge was mobilised to Linley Drive after reports of a fire in the open at around 9.05pm.

Crews used a water bucket to extinguish a small fire which had started in a bin before leaving at about 9.15pm.

Then four fire engines from Hastings and Bexhill plus one officer were all sent to reports of a fire at a residential property on Milward Road at around 11.05pm.

The fire, which had started in a washing machine, was confirmed as out on arrival.

Crews provided the residents with a home safety visit before leaving the scene at 11.35pm.
