Students at Claremont Senior School are celebrating after recording the five-year-old school’s best ever set of GCSE results today (Thursday, August 25).

The Bodiam school, which has a preparatory site in St Leonards, surpassed its 2015 results which saw Claremont topping the league tables in East Sussex.

Ninety-four per cent of this year’s results were A* to C grades, including English and maths, and 46 per cent of all grades were either A* or A.

Nearly half of all students achieved five or more A*or A grades and 76 per cent of all grades were A* to B.

“This is the best crop of GCSE results we have ever had and I am incredibly proud of all the students and staff involved,” headmaster Giles Perrin said.

“We are a nonselective school yet our results measure up against any selective school in the county.

“A third of all our students secured eight or more A*/A grades and we also have students who passed all of their GCSEs with A* to C grades, many of whom would have never thought it a possibility before they arrived at the school.

“Our attention to detail in preparing our students for public examinations is second to none.

“It really is astonishing that 46 per cent of our grades were A*/A.

“We have been determined to ensure that the very top students are able to secure the top grades and each year we have delivered.”

Among the high flyers were Thomas Dixon, who achieved eleven A* grades; Isabella Walsh with nine A* grades; Harry Gasson secured nine A*/A grades as did Lydia Dunham.

Other top performers included: Leo Levinson, Alexandra McKenzie-Sanchez, Sophie Nye,Guy Vernon and Anya White.
