The event was initially set to take place on Sunday, May 17 but was rescheduled for Sunday, September 20 due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, the organisers remain uncertain that Government rules will allow the event to take place so decided to cancel until next year.

Fernhust Revels, which includes a procession, food stalls and live music, usually attracts hundreds of visitors each year.

“We could get everything ready and then it will be cancelled. We don’t know what the rules about gathering will be.

“The rules at the moment are just not clear.

“There is nothing to say you can have anything like that, unfortunately.”

Heather said the event’s cancellation was a ‘great shame’.

She added: “We really hoped we could have done something. People would have been ready for a party.

“We were hoping we could do away with the stalls and just put on a jazz band and a picnic or BBQ but we can’t have more than 30 people in a gathering.”
