Ahead of this year’s pantomime, Aladdin, kicking off tonight at the White Rock Theatre from 7pm, we caught up with Ben Watson who plays Wishee Washee.
Q. Are you excited for the show to start?
A. As 80s Supergroup The Pointer Sisters once sang: I’m so excited and I just can’t hide it, I’m about to lose control and I think I like it.
A. I love the madness and unpredictability of it all. You never know what might happen and it’s never the same show twice!
A. Set in the future, Cinderella Whittington and the seven dwarves must climb the magic beanstalk to free Mother Goose and defeat the evil Captain Hook and his band of hapless pirates…erm I think I might have got that confused, oh well you’ll just have to come and see the show!
A. Wishee Washee is just a big fun bundle of energy, how can you not enjoy playing him!
A. The tradition of it all. The lights in the town, the Christmas market, the last minute panic-buying of presents. The show is deeply connected to the season and it’s a time when all the generations, young and old alike can sit and enjoy the show together.
A. Working in pantomime is different to working on a normal show. Oh no it isn’t, oh yes it is!
A. I’m very proud to say I’ve appeared in the panto for the last two years at The White Rock so this is number three. Third time lucky that I will actually get all my lines right and not once forget them!
I love performing in Sussex but most importantly Hastings. The White Rock Rocks!
A. Thrills, spills, action-packed adventure, comedy capers, villainous villains, fun-filled festive frolics for the whole family, High Octane performances, Song, Dance and of course, the amazing Louis Spence so a whole lot more dance!
