Preview: The Magic Flute, St Mary-in-the-Castle, Pelham Place. Saturday, September 8, 7.30pm. £15, £12 concessions, £10 students and under 16.
Headed by director Jenny Miller and assistant director Sophie Horton, a young cast is preparing to perform Mozart’s fantastic and famous opera, The Magic Flute.
This is a magical fairy story, complete with the handsome Prince seeking his true love Princess Pamina, her mother the terrifying and resplendent Queen of the Night and her out-of-order ladies, a secret Temple, a mysterious magician, and of course a happy ending.
There is much local support and talent involved in this enterprise.
The costumes are designed by Hastings born Hannah-Lauren Whitham, Pamina is sung by Alice Privett, raised in St Leonards and now on the Opera course at the Royal Academy in London, and Jenny Miller has been a resident of St Leonards for 22 years.
This promises to be the richest of evenings – the 16-strong company of talented and international young singers are accompanied by brilliant young repetiteur Philip Voldman and music director Lesley-Anne Sammons, who works with major opera houses in Europe.
The opera will be sung in German, with English sur-titles, and English dialogue.
