Paul Nicholas to star in white Rock Panto

ACTOR Paul Nicholas has been announced as the star of this year’s White Rock pantomime Peter Pan, playing dastardly Captain Hook.

Paul became a household name in the 1980s as Vince in the BBC sitcom Just Good Friends.

His stage career began in the original London production of Hair in 1969, followed by the lead role in Jesus Christ Superstar.

He was the first British actor to play Danny in Grease and won a starring role in the original cast of Cats.

More recently, Paul played Mr Woods in the ITV drama The Royal Today.

He has spoken of his ‘delight’ about treading the boards in Peter Pan at the White Rock, saying: “Playing the villainous Captain Hook gives me so much opportunity to interact with the audience who never stop booing.

“Pantomime is such an important theatrical tradition. Peter Pan is particularly impressive, with magical flying sequences.”

Jonathan Kiley, executive producer of Peter Pan, said: “It’s fantastic that we have an actor of Paul’s calibre leading our cast in Hastings.

“This is a superb family show and a truly magical story.”

Theatre director Howard Barnes added that he is hopeful this year’s production will be ‘the best Christmas season yet’, even though last year’s pantomime Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs featuring Sid Owen broke box office records.
