Breaking new ground at village festival

The Chiddingly Festival runs from Saturday to September 29.

The diverse programme of music includes jazz with Scott Hamilton and his quartet.

Folk music comes from Swarb's Lazarus, a trio featuring fiddler Dave Swarbrick, guitarist Kevin Dempsey and multi-instrumentalist Martin Allcock.

Acoustic quintet, The Golgi Apparatus blend elements of jazz ,folk rock and ska.

For classical music lovers, the acclaimed Wakeford Ensemble features Lucy Wakeford, one the most outstanding harpists of her generation and Siobhan Grealy, flautist who will play a programme including Bach and Rossini

This year's international event sees La Passionata Flamenca, an international company of flamenco artists, recreating Lorca's play La Casa de Bernarda Alba in a fiery and spectacular dance theatre performance.

Poetry in the pub will be hosted by Catherine Smith, one of the Guardian's Twenty Next Generation poets.

For younger children there is Clownderella with Krazy Cat Theatre and for older children, a two-day animation workshop with award-winning animator Corin Hardy.

The art and craft exhibition has displays of ceramics, jewellery and children's workshops.

Mervyn Stutter, star of radio and the Edinburgh festival, will provide an evening of comedy.

Open houses will feature the work of local artists.

Farley Farm, home of the surrealists Lee Miller and Roland Penrose, will be open during the festival and an International mini print exhibition is taking place in Farley Yard Barn.

Mark Haworth will give a talk called Curating Lee Miller describing his work for the Lee Miller centenary exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum.
