Battle Light Opera Group are setting sail for the “South Pacific” this week as they bring this award-winning and smash hit musical to the Memorial Hall until Saturday 9th May at 19:30, with a matinee at 14:30 on Saturday.
Written by Rodgers and Hammerstein, the plot centres on an American nurse stationed on a South Pacific island during World War II who falls in love with a middle-aged expatriate French plantation owner but struggles to accept his mixed-race children.
A secondary romance, between a U.S. lieutenant and a young Tonkinese woman, explores his fears of the social consequences should he marry his Asian sweetheart.
The show features those best loved songs “There Is Nothing Like a Dame”, “Happy Talk”, “Bali Ha’i”, “I’m Gonna Wash That man Right Outa my Hair” and “Some Enchanted Evening” and is directed by Avril Crawford, supported by Sherri-Ann Fido as Choreographer and Lorraine Barry as Musical Director.
Lots of local talent have joined forces to create this wonderfully enjoyable musical; if you’ve seen it before then why not bring someone who hasn’t to share the experience!
