AN artist’s turning of an ordinary garden shed into a giant light projection box is part of the launch of a new project.
The work by Hastings-based Caroline Le Breton, called SHED, is now on display in St Leonards at The SPACE in Kings Road.
SHED has previously been shown only indoors in Queens Road and at Start London for the Frieze Art Fair 2009.
The work marks the start of a new programme of artists’ temporary projects and events located in The SPACE. As part of the council’s Art in New Spaces, the programme aims to reanimate redundant sites and create opportunities for artists from the area and beyond to make new work.
SHED was launched in The SPACE yesterday evening (Thursday). It will be there until January 9 next year.
Christine Gist, artist and project co-ordinator, said: “The SPACE has been used by artists since 2009 but we would now like to see an ongoing programme of events which will help to promote St Leonards as a location to access innovative contemporary art.
“We are keen to hear from artists who would like to discuss projects for The SPACE in 2012. For information, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org or 07881 441120.”
The SPACE is supported by Hastings Borough Council and the National Lottery through Arts Council England.
