HIGH-masted ships from a romantic era of sailing inspire local painter Derek Stocker’s latest exhibition.

A series of his nautical oil paintings opened at the Weekend Gallery last weekend, and runs till September 4.

Derek, 63, of Duke Street, Bexhill, harbours a love of aircraft and shipping scenes.

“I enjoy ships of any sort,” he said, “But square-rigged sailing ships from the 18th century are the particular focus of this show.”

A series of limited edition prints sit alongside the oils, which Derek described as examples of his realist style, ‘not impressionistic in any way’.
