Artistic director Marcio da Silva said: “We have been heartened to learn that the vaccination programme is making such a positive impact on the current pandemic, and that the government is confident in planning a cautious and sensible route out of the current restrictions.

“With this clearer path laid out, we are able to plan for the months ahead with an increasing degree of certainty, confident that future events won’t need to be re-scheduled.

“As current guidelines stand, we regret to say that we won’t be able to hold a live concert on April 17. Those of you who have already bought a ticket and wish to receive a refund can request this through Eventbrite. However we do intend to go forward with this concert, since we have not yet been able to hold an orchestral concert this season, and we want to honour the support and generosity shown by our supporters in enabling the orchestra to survive through this pandemic.

“For this reason we will hold the concert in a Covid-secure manner – as permitted under current guidelines – and make a recording which we will broadcast a week later, on April 24. We are pleased to offer this work to our young HPO musicians, who have not been employed by us for over 12 months. In order to ensure that the recording is high quality, it will be made by a small team of experienced technicians hired for the concert.

“We have been offered a donation by the local company Penn Elcom to help with the second half of this season, but as always we really appreciate your support. Tickets for this broadcast are now available online. In order to help fund the event, a range of different ticket prices are on offer.

“Access to the broadcast can be gained for the sum of £5. We recognise that the pandemic has presented financial challenges for many in our local community, and we are committed to making high quality classical music accessible to as many people as possible. However, if you feel able to offer us a higher contribution, then a range of other price options are available. Thankfully things are looking a great deal brighter for the rest of our season so our concert planned for May 21 concert looks set to go ahead according to plan.”
