Yardy century for Sussex

HASTINGS Priory batting all-rounder Mike Yardy celebrated the award of a new one year contract with Sussex County Cricket by compiling his inaugural first class century last weekend.

The 23-year-old chalked up a tremendous 115 off 209 balls with 16 boundaries during the first innings of Sussex's 37 run defeat to Surrey in the final Frizzell County Championship Division One match of the season at Hove. Yardy, playing his 38th first class game since 2000, also scored 25 at the second time of asking as Sussex finished the defence of their title in fifth place.

What's more, after the game drew to a conclusion on Sunday evening, Yardy picked up the Geoffrey Everitt Memorial Shield having been named the county's second team player of the year.
