The Hastings club will cement top spot in South Hockey League Sussex Area - Division One with victory at home to Crawley II tomorrow (Saturday).

A point could even be enough if second-placed Brighton & Hove III and third-placed Eastbourne II share the spoils in their fixture against each other.

Paddy Cornish’s men boast a 100% record on their own patch so far this season and have won seven on the bounce since their last defeat back in January. They did, however, draw 2-2 with Crawley earlier in the campaign.

“As we’re at home, we are very confident,” said Cornish. “We’ve been solid all season on our own soil, so I think we can get the job done. But we struggled at Crawley in October. That might be in the back of our minds a little, so it’s important we remain focused and disciplined in order to win the game.”

Saxons have finished runners-up in each of the last three seasons and are desperate to go one better this time around. “We’ve come close a number of times,” Cornish added. “This time it’s in our hands and we want to finish the job for the club. Promotion is vital for us.”

Push-back at Horntye Park is 1.30pm.
