Wendy is a wonder as she rides out aged 66

IT'S no surprise to find that Wendy Oakley is still lithe, active and riding out racehorses at the age of 66.

For Wendy, who lives in Findon, comes from a family with long connections with horses and racing.

She was brought up with horses in Wales, near Cowbridge, where her father, Ren Jenkins, broke thoroughbred yearlings and she started out riding show ponies before progressing to bigger horses and ultimately riding yearlings.

Today, Wendy can be found riding out at Lady Herries' yard at Angmering Park, where she proves that age is no barrier not only to riding but also to handling top-class thoroughbreds.

She is in her sixth season at the yard, ready to pull out every day at 7.30am, taking out a second lot on most days.
