Wellington eyes BBL

IT'S A bit like being repeatedly stung by the same bee. Then magically turning the bee's attention away from you and towards stinging your human tormentors instead.

That's what it feels like to Thunder and their fans to have Roderick Wellington suddenly sign for the team just in time for the first competitive game of the season.

Whenever Thunder lost to Plymouth Raiders, it seemed the 6th 5in Wellington was a factor for them. Lying behind the big, known, imported foreign threats there was an English forward who darkly and silently left a decisive imprint on the Thunder flesh. With vital extra points and rebounds, just when Thunder thought they'd got the main men taped.

At the end of last season, while Thunder were licking their pride over communal food in a room deep in the NIA complex, after losing the championship play-offs final to EJ Harrison and Reading Rockets at Birmingham, Wellington was sitting with them commiserating. The reason for that lies behind his arrival this season.
