Triathlon ready for the off

The fourth edition of the original Bexhill Triathlon will take place tomorrow (Sunday) and it looks set to be another great event.

The race has sold out every year since its launch in 2009 and has consistently attracted a high quality field of experienced athletes, as well as novices to the sport.

It will begin at 7.45am with a 500m sea swim taking place by the Sovereign Light Café on West Parade. The 25km bike route will then take the athletes through Little Common, Cooden and onto the Marsh Road to Pevensey before heading back to Bexhill.

The final task is a 5km scenic seafront run taking in two loops of West Parade and the Lower Promenade. The race village and finish area will be on the seafront near the Sovereign Light Café.

This location is a fantastic vantage point for spectators to see all the action while enjoying a Sunday morning at the seaside.

Natasha Fielden, of organisers TL Sports Events, said: “Although the Bexhill Triathlon has always been extremely popular among local triathletes, we’ve recently had a lot of interest from those who are very new to the sport.

“The success of Alistair and Jonny Brownlee in the Olympics has really raised the profile of triathlon among the general public, and it would be great if the residents and visitors to Bexhill came out to show their support for the athletes on Sunday.”

The first athlete who is a resident of Bexhill will be awarded the Jamie Hanney Trophy together with a cash prize. Overall winners, age group winners and the first relay team will all receive trophies and vouchers.

Eastbourne’s Tri Store is the title sponsor of the event. Further details (including details of road closures) are available at www.thebexhilltriathlon.co.uk or by calling (01424) 810096.
