There are two duathlon distances to choose from. The taster distance is made up of a 2km promenade run, 10km road cycle and 5km promenade run, while the classic distance consists of a 4km promenade run, 40km road cycle and 10km promenade run.

Race director David Burstow said: “We wanted to introduce a new event to encourage people to take their first steps to having fun, getting fit and raising money for charity.

“They can enter themselves or better still join with schoolmates, friends, family members or work colleagues. There is also a relay option, so if you don’t like running, you can cycle and get a friend to do the running.

“Whatever the option, it is a great way to experience the fun and buzz of a major event. The flat course is perfect for beginners or those wanting to produce some quick times.”

There are also two aspects to the triathlon. The sprint distance features a 750m swim, 20km cycle and 5km run, while the standard distance comprises a 1,500m swim, 40km cycle and 10km run. As usual, all of the events will be para-athlete inclusive.

The Bexhill Lions Triathlon & Duathlon are organised by the Bexhill-on-Sea Lions Club and all profits will be donated to charity. This year the recipients are the Sussex, Kent & Surrey Air Ambulance Night Flying Appeal, St Michael’s Hospice and the Bexhill-on-Sea Lions Charitable Trust Fund.
