Ton-up Robertson off to flyer
Snooker ace Jimmy Robertson got off to a flying start at the China Open in Beijing this morning (Monday).
The Bexhill man stormed to a 5-1 victory over Wang Yuchen in the wildcard round, racking up three century, including a 142 total clearance, in the process.
Robertson lost the opening frame in the best-of-nine clash against 15-year-old Chinese prodigy Yuchen 61-26, but after edging a close second frame 78-37, the Englishman took full control.
World number 54 Robertson didn’t concede a point in the next two rounds as he hit breaks of 142 and 121 to go 3-1 in front. A run of 53 in frame five saw Robertson go 4-1 ahead before sealing his win with a 126 in the sixth.
Robertson now moves into the first round proper, where he will face current world number three and former world champion Neil Robertson on Wednesday at 11.30am UK time.
St Leonards-based world number 17 Mark Davis begins his campaign in round one on Wednesday. He will play the winner of the wildcard match between Dechawat Poomjaeng and Zhu Yinghui.
