Table tennis trio star for Sussex

Three top table tennis players from the locality starred for Sussex.

Yolanda King, Rose Rainton and Ritchie Venner formed three-fifths of the Sussex team which finished fourth in the Senior Premier Division of the County Championships.

Sussex began the final weekend of matches at Wood Green Table Tennis Centre, Wednesbury, with a 5-5 draw against Berkshire. Rainton (Hollington TTC) and King both won their two singles matches.

The second match of the day also ended 5-5 against Derbyshire. National number eight senior woman King, Rainton, ranked 23, and Venner (Saints TTC), the national number 27 man and number five veteran man, won one match each.

Sussex began the following day’s programme with a 10-0 whitewash of a Cornwall side which was a player short. Rainton and King won their only matches, while Venner clinched his two encounters, one of them 16-14 in the fifth.

Then came a third 5-5 draw, this time against Middlesex. King won her latest battle with 16th-ranked Tin-Tin Ho in five and saw off Egle Ademolyte in four.
