Sweet 16 for shooting star Digweed

TOP marksman George Digweed is celebrating an incredible 16th European title.

The Northiam-based clay pigeon shooter clinched the European FITASC Championship in Portugal.

In another dramatic tournament, Digweed started with 47/50 on the opening day, a score which he admitted was “probably one target light”.

He more than made up for this disappointment on the Friday and Saturday though, missing just one target with scores on 50/50 and 49/50 respectively.

Another stunning performance came on the Sunday as he again missed just one target to post a final day score of 49/50 and a grand total of 195/200.

Digweed, 48, finished two clays ahead of fellow Brit Mark Winser in second and three ahead of bronze medal winner Felix Soldad Folch of Spain.

“I’m delighted to have won,” he said. “This was another hard-fought competition and that always makes the win that little bit more special.”

As well as the European titles (12 Fitasc and 4 Compak), Digweed has also won 19 World titles (11 Sporting and 8 Fitasc) and nine World Cups.
