Sunday cups facing axe

THE cup competitions run by the Hastings & East Sussex Sunday Football League may have to be abandoned for this season if the weather does not improve.

Honorary secretary Robin Powell admitted he will have to act to save the league programme if two of the next four rounds of weekly matches are wiped out.

Just one fixture was played at the weekend due to frost, leaving the league a staggering 128 games behind schedule - the equivalent to eight weeks worth of matches.

Powell said: "If we have two more wipe outs we believe we will not have enough available dates to complete our programme. If that's the case I will propose in our February 10 meeting that we abandon the cups but that decision won't be made until February."
