Southwater crowned primary school netball champions

Seven schools took part in total where all children were at a similar skill level and were all prepared and excited for how well they could show their talent, with four games of 12 minutes each to strut their stuff.

There were some great games with Southwater’s 4-2 win over Shelley being a particular cracker and Holbrook’s win over Nuthurst by a similar scoreline also being an exciting one. Netball newcomers Barns Green acquitted themselves well throughout including a first game victory over All Saints and finding themselves 2-0 up versus Holbrook until the North Horsham school fought back to win 4-2.

Castlewood endured some tough games before coming good 3-2 in their exciting last match with All Saints.

Proceedings boiled down to an intense final between Southwater and Holbrook. It was a very intense game with many parents cheering on their children.

The game started off well and not long after Holbrook were scoring goals. By half-time they were 2-1 up and Southwater were on the back foot.

However in the second half, the Southwater machine got into gear particularly with some good intercepting work that turned possession in their favour and provided a platform for them to turn the tide and eventually rattle in four goals to win out 5-2.

Shelley B won the D division of the Horsham Primary Schools Netball League after the final meeting took place recently at Collyer’s Sixth Form College.

They completed a full house of league wins by beating a plucky Northolmes B team 4-2 who gave them more problems than their comparative league positions suggested they would.

Southwater B proceeded to take runners-up spot with a 7-0 demolition of third placed Loxwood B.

Southwater were the division’s top scorers but their defeat to Shelley earlier in the season proved to be the decisive result.

By virtue of beating Plaistow and Kirdford by default due to a no-show, All Saints leapt into fourth spot and demoted opposition into the wooden-spoon position just behind fifth placed finishing Northolmes.
