Sidley suffer heavy defeat

SIDLEY United's run of form came to a shuddering halt with a 5-2 defeat at home to Chichester City United in Sussex Division One on Saturday.

The visitors took the lead midway through the first half through Roger Moore and doubled their tally with a Paul Thomas effort two minutes before the interval.

Sidley looked to given themselves real hope when Dave Ward halved the deficit from virtually the next attack only for Jamie Laidlaw to restore the two-goal advantage on the stroke of half-time.

Further goals from Neil Murfin and Laidlaw put Chichester out of sight before Wes Tate grabbed a consolation 17 minutes from time.

Bexhill United remain fifth in Division Three after contesting a bizarre 2-2 draw away to leaders Midhurst & Easebourne. The top dogs took the lead through Gibson just before half-time before the match took an unusual turn in the final quarter with three own goals hitting the back of the net.
