Sidley snap up prized striker

SIDLEY United have completed the signing of Scott McDonald from neighbours Bexhill United.

The sought-after striker put pen to paper with Sussex Division One side Sidley last weekend after a seven-day approach to Division three club Bexhill.

Sidley joint manager Andy Laskey said: "That's a tremendous signing really. Every year I've been manager I've tried to get hold of him and I think he will be an asset. He had offers from other clubs, but he's looking forward to it."

Bexhill boss Bill Trivett added: "I was a little bit disappointed because he never really had the decency to talk to me about it, but I'm more concerned about people that want to play for the club for the right reasons. I don't really see it as a massive problem because we've got other people that will score a lot of goals as well."

McDonald is likely to go straight into the Sidley squad for their trip to Three Bridges in the league tomorrow (Saturday).

Graham and Steve Morris are both on holiday and Josh Brown is unavailable, but Perry Weedon and Mickey O'Callaghan may return from injury.

Trivett will finally take charge of his first game back at the Bexhill helm away to Pease Pottage Village tomorrow.

Trivett, who guided the club to promotion from Division Three two seasons ago, is expected to hand a debut to Dan Auer between the posts.

Recent signing Warren Parsons will go straight in on the right of midfield, while Mark Funnell and Sam Thompson were due to return to training this week.

Trivett conceded, however, that "it looks as though" centre-half Jason Morley is on his way to high-flying Newhaven after a seven-day letter.

Bexhill's Sussex Intermediate Cup first round tie at Lewes was postponed on Saturday due to their opponents' FA Cup commitments.
