Sidley ace close to return

LONG term Sidley United absentee Owen Ball is on course to make a genuine return to the first team after playing 50 minutes for the reserves against Eastbourne Borough on Friday.

The wing back, sidelined for four months since undergoing a back operation in the summer, had come on as a late substitute against Wick last month but that was only a token gesture to make up the numbers.

Joint manager Peter Heritage said: "He was looking to come back around the Christmas period and he's training so I would say another couple of training sessions and another game for the reserves and he could be back in the first team."

Sidley are due to take on Southwick in the league on Saturday December 7 but the state of the Gullivers pitch means there is a doubt the game will go ahead. Contact the club matchline on 221126 for the latest news.

The previous weekend's home game against Chichester City United was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.
