Seagulls shine in national top flight

Of the 50 events at The Spectrum in Guildford, Seagull swimmers recorded four victories, five top two placings and 17 top three finishes despite being up against five of the strongest and largest clubs in England.

Although Guildford A won the event comfortably, after 10 events Seagull’s swimmers were only three points behind second place. They competed strongly for third and fourth all night before eventually finishing fifth.

In the girls’ 10 and 11 years category, the performances of Ellie Foster and Leah Williams were awesome. Foster won the 50m backstroke in 34.79 and Williams clinched the 50m butterfly in 34.30.

Louis Choron was victorious in the boys’ 10 and 11 years 50m backstroke, and Andy Paige coolly powered his way to first place in the 15 years and under 100m breaststroke in 1.11.01. Seagull are bidding to become the first club in Sussex to retain Premier League status for many years.

Seagull also entered a ‘B’ team for the first time in the Arena National League. The B team competed in round one of Division Two South at Sevenoaks and can also be proud of their performance, finishing second out of the six clubs competing.

There were individual wins for Nadia Winn in the girls’ open 100m backstroke and Harry Kilbane in the boys’ 13 and under 100m butterfly. Kilbane was also part of the winning boys’ 13 and under 200m medley relay team along with Harry Markfort, Leon Shaw and Archie Blackmore.
