The Hastings club racked up another victory on Saturday with a 2-0 win away to Hailsham and their position at the summit was strengthened by a surprise defeat for chasing Eastbourne II at home to bottom club Horsham III.

Saxons could potentially win the league this coming weekend if they pick up three points at home to Middleton & Bognor, and second-placed Brighton & Hove III and third-placed Eastbourne both lose.

In a decent contest at Hailsham, Saxons raced into a two-goal half time lead. They failed to find the net after the break, but held on to all three points with George Deaves making some important stops as the half went on.

“I still felt Hailsham were in it right up until the last ten minutes,” Saxons skipper Paddy Cornish said. “I thought we still required a third to kill them off.” See Friday’s Hastings Observer for a full report.
