Saxons win again to stay top

South Saxons consolidated top spot in South Hockey League Sussex Area - Division One with another win on Saturday.

The Hastings club scored four goals in a convincing second half display to see off fourth-placed Mid Sussex II 5-1 at Horntye Park Sports Complex.

Mid-Sussex broke the deadlock early on, but Jamie Busbridge made it 1-1 at the break by latching onto a George Eldridge aerial, beating the last defender and slotting past the goalkeeper.

Alex Coombs set up Busbridge for his second before Eldridge added the third. Man of the match Busbridge then completed his hat-trick with Saxons’ fourth goal before captain Paddy Cornish rounded-off the scoring.

“It really could’ve gone either way,” said Cornish. “But thankfully we had enough quality to win a very enjoyable match played in the right spirit.” For a full report, pictures and reaction, see Friday’s Hastings Observer.
