The Hastings based side pulled off a fine victory away to Sevenoaks II on Saturday despite making the journey up the A21 with the bare 11 players.

Saxons fell behind within 20 minutes to an incisive breakaway from their Kent opponents, who finished in the top five last season. The visitors equalised moments later, however, through Alex Coombs.

Jamie Busbridge then netted the first of his two goals to give Saxons a 2-1 lead at the break. Sevenoaks II emerged for the second half reinvigorated and tested the visitors’ backline on a number of occasions before levelling the scores with just five minutes remaining.

Almost immediately, though, Busbridge netted Saxons’ winning goal after a slick passing move.

Saxons captain Paddy Cornish was suitably delighted with the result. He said: “We pulled it out of the bag with the result. We weren’t too sure of what to expect from the match and neither were they - but we took advantage of that and grabbed a decent win.”

Saxons were scheduled to open their home programme against HSBC this coming Saturday, but the opposition have withdrawn from the league. Their next game will now be away to King’s & Alleyn’s on Saturday October 19.

Saxons: Wedmore, Ford, Reed, Buss, Cload, Stainsby, Coombs, Cornish, Busbridge, Reece, Bunday.
