Saxons came from two goals down to earn a very commendable 2-2 draw away to Horsham II in South Hockey League Sussex Area - Division 2.

On a day when Nick Taylor and youngster Bailey Wright made excellent first team debuts, Saxons started well.

But Horsham were clinical in front of goal and scored two goals in quick succession. It could have been worse, but Brock Smith made a stunning save off a drag flick which, unbeknown to him at the time, caused a suspected fracture to his wrist.

Wright nearly claimed an assist as he poked the ball through to Busbridge, but the home goalkeeper closed him down quickly.

Saxons moved the ball much quicker in the second half, with Andrew Acott, Alex Coombs and Tudor Stainsby becoming an increasing threat.

They were rewarded with a goal when a neat one-two between Acott and Olli Beal led to a tap in for Acott.

Stainsby then won a short corner and Coombs rounded the first runner before flicking the ball past the goalkeeper to equalise.

Smith is ruled out of the visit from fourth-placed Kings & Alleyns this coming Saturday so Nate Webster will make his first team debut in goal. Push-back at Horntye Park is 1.30pm.

Saxons have now been awarded the points for the uncontested fixture against New Beccehamians last month when the opposition failed to raise a side and have moved into the top six as a result.
