Rye end bad day with fine victory

Rye United ended a troubled day off the field with victory on it on Saturday.

Just hours after their Sidney Allnutt Pavilion was ravaged by fire, the Quarterboys won 1-0 away to Redhill.

Scott Ramsay scored the only goal of the Sussex County Football League Division One encounter as Rye kept a third clean sheet in four games. Jack Dixon was sent-off for foul and abusive language.

Elsewhere in the top flight, Sidley United suffered an agonising 4-3 defeat away to unbeaten Three Bridges and had Danny Spice sent-off in the second half.

The Blues were two-up at half time thanks to strikes by Kevin Rose and Chris Agutter. Allan McMinigal put Sidley 3-1 up in the second half, but a late Dan Cruikshank own goal meant they went home empty-handed.

Little Common got back to winning ways in Division Two with a 1-0 success away to Storrington. Casey Ham scored the only goal during the first half.

Westfield won 2-0 at home to Littlehampton Town courtesy of a goal in either half by David Pugh and Ashley Platts, the latter scoring his first for the club.
