H&B expecting toughest test so far

The rugby club will travel to Shooters Hill aiming to make it three wins out of three in Kent One following a hard-fought 21-13 success at home to Beccehamian last weekend.

Head coach Kevin Smith said: “I am expecting our toughest game so far, but we seem to be travelling well this year (H&B won 30-10 away to HSBC on the opening day).”

H&B are fifth in the early league table, but have a game in hand on the four teams above them. Dartfordians and Gillingham Anchorians are the only sides with three wins out of three.

“I think that the players feel they’ve got it in them to get to the top three,” continued Smith. “We’re a small first team squad so we’ll have to see how our injuries go, but I’m very pleased with what I’ve seen so far.

“We were a bit apprehensive about the Kent League. We knew it was going to be tougher than Sussex One and we weren’t quite sure how we would cope, but we’re coping so far.”

Shooters Hill, who are based in Kidbrooke, South East London, are in fourth place with two wins and one defeat. One area Smith is keen to improve is that of discipline after H&B conceded far too many penalties against a Beccehamian side which props up the table with three defeats.

Elsewhere tomorrow, Rye will entertain early Sussex One leaders Burgess Hill. Both matches will kick-off at 3pm.
