Rugby club’s case for the defence

Hastings & Bexhill have been working on their defence this week in readiness for another tough away game.

A fortnight after travelling to second-placed Shooters Hill, the rugby club will journey to third-placed Vigo in Kent One tomorrow (Saturday).

Head coach Kevin Smith said: “We’re going to be working on our defence this week. It’s going to be a hard one, they’re fighting to get into the top position.

“But if we can do well there, all of a sudden the belief will come in buckets,” continued Smith. “If they can beat this Vigo side, anything can happen. We can go all the way.”

Vigo have won four of their first five matches and their only loss came by a solitary point away to Dartfordians. H&B have won three of their four games so far to lie in fifth place.

“If someone had offered me that at the beginning coming into a new club as a coach and not knowing the players as well as I would like and not knowing the league, I would take that. Of course I would,” added Smith.

Elsewhere tomorrow, Rye RFC will be eager to put successive defeats behind them when they entertain Seaford in Sussex One. Both matches will kick-off at 3pm.
