Record amount is handed to charity

BOB Davey presented Chase hospice care for children with a cheque for £1,600 on his last day as seniors captain at Copthorne Golf Club.

This is the most that has ever been raised for charity by the senior section of the club and is the result of many different fundraising activities that were organised throughout the past year.

Bob, who lives in Burgess Hill, started the fundraising by challenging himself to do a sponsored slim, during which he lost two stone and raised more than 400.

He said: "I was glad to lose the weight and raise valuable funds for Chase at the same time but it was certainly tricky. I played in around 30 golf matches while I was slimming, and each of them involved a large dinner at the club afterwards."
