Race ace gearing up for Italian job

Jack Barlow is poised to make his racing debut with one of international karting’s leading teams.

The Pett-based prospect is putting the final touches to his preparations before competing at Sarno in Italy this weekend.

Barlow will line-up in the opening round of one of the world’s toughest and most prestigious championships, the World Series Karting (WSK) Euro Series.

After winning three major junior titles in the UK last year, Barlow was invited to join the Italian Intrepid factory squad and contest the KF2 category as a senior.

He will partner former Formula One star Jos Verstappen’s son Max in spearheading the team’s bid to lift the title.

The Sarno circuit is one of the most popular tracks on the international calendar.

Barlow was fortunate enough to spend three days testing there last week. He was due to test again from today (Wednesday) prior to the competition getting underway in earnest on Friday with timed qualifying.

So far, Barlow has been on the pace, especially when it rained: “I was very, very quick in the wet,” he said. “In the dry it took me a little longer to go faster, but I wasn’t 100%.”

Now fully recovered, Barlow is looking forward to the challenge ahead. “I’m aiming for a top ten result and to be on the same pace as Max,” he added. “He’s the man of the moment and I’m trying to be realistic.”
