Peter claims Cooden cup

A STIRRING round of golf earned Peter Freeman the Pemberton Cup at Cooden Beach Golf Club.

His excellent six-under-par nett score of 66 just pipped Chris Rowsell on countback in a Medal competition that attracted 113 players.

In a day of all-round fine golf, Jeff Reed took third spot with a 68 with Paul Heritage edging out Brian Wilson on countback for fourth place after both had carded 69s.

In the club's Monthly Monday Stableford competition, it was veteran Mick Pooley who stole the honours with a superb score of 41 points. John Samuels was second with 40, while third went to Geoff Myers who just crept ahead of Paul Leech on countback with 39 points.

The annual mixed greensomes event for The Peter Burgess Bowl was staged on Saturday and some 28 drawn pairs took part. Steve Tidey and Pat Leech took the honours and the trophy, donated to the club by former lady captain Audrey Burgess in memory of her late husband.

Their total of 44 points was just enough to stave off hot favourites David Munro and Marie Burton, who notched 43 points. Myers again featured, coming third with partner Wendy Miller, also on 43 points.

Sunday's men's fourball betterball tournament was won resoundingly by the duo of Paul Rowe and Kevin Williams, whose Stableford score of 47 points was two clear of David Gould and Phil Macnicol. Third place went to the father and son Dennis and James March, who amassed 44 points.
