Pedersen nets second world title

Eastburne speedway rider Nicki Pedersen is world speedway champion.

He won the Slovenian GP last night (Saturday) and secured the points he needed to take the title with one round of the competition still to go.

Pedersen, who has missed the latest Eastbourne Eagles' matches because of an injury he picked up in the previous GP, was imperious.

Pedersen went into the meeting needing a maximum of 18 points from the last two rounds here and in Germany on October 13 to win his second World Championship even if his nearest challenger, Leigh Adams of Australia, managed a maximum 48.

He did that and more, dropping just that one point in his qualifying races and then winning both his semi and the final in grand style.

Pedersen said:'"It's fantastic, it's my biggest dream that comes true.

''I've worked so hard for this to happen to prove that the title I won in 2003 was not just was a one timer. Now I've proved that for myself and everybody else, and it gives me an unbelievable feeling of satisfaction.
