Six capsizes for one sailor is a new 'best' at Bexhill Sailing Club

Although the official race agenda has been delayed, the sailors were able to practice racing on a rising wind on Saturday, with an impressive start, not least by instructor Richard Eagleton. No capsizes on the start line but several took early baths, one sailor going over six times, a season record!

On Sunday the light winds developed to an interesting and rewarding beat wind along the shore towards the De La Warr Pavilion. The scratch race ensued for some utilising natural obstacles, and very enjoyable it was.

The club has been carefully adjusting how to operate ,following the official guidance and using systems in the clubhouse to minimise risk. All going well, the Regatta on August 1 and 2 will be the first official races of the season. There will be back to back races , with sailors following the criteria set by the Executive Sub-Committee ,led by Commodore Michael Copeman. More free sailing, weather permitting, comes this weekend so there's more practice for those all important starts to put the leaders in the running for the silverware.

The club has naturally had to postpone normal training courses for this year, but that is not to say potential new members should not enquire about joining ,even this late in the season.

They will find a friendly response and an opportunity to enjoy club faculties, Covid-19 allowing, the club committees have been working hard to try to offer facilities to suit all members and potential members even in these difficult times, and the sailors who have already sailed or visited the clubhouse have taken full advantage of the good vibes after the stringent lock-down.
