NOW MANSELL DOES IT WITH THE BAT

WORTHING'S Chris Mansell seems to be able to do nothing wrong at the moment, just one week after taking club best bowling figures, he took four more wickets and struck his maiden league 50 '” although it was not enough as Cuckfield won by three wickets.

An opening stand of 59 between Cuckfield's Chris Mole and Steffan Piolet ultimately proved too much for Worthing to drag back, with their visitors requiring 172 to win.

Mansell's 50 comprised 19 off the final over of the innings bowled by Cuckfield skipper Chris Mole '” his only one of the match '” with his left-arm spin. The over went 4 4 4 2 4 1 to give Mansell 50 in just 38 balls, an innings which included nine fours.

John Kaye had earlier scored a battling 32 from 80 balls and he thought a total above 150 would be competitive, while Cuckfield at the beginning of their innings were disappointed Worthing had made over the same total.

Worthing's bowling attack was limited as Andy Lutwyche was battling against the flu, and did not bowl, although he took a stunning diving catch low to his right to dismiss James Richings '” the sixth man out '” off Mansell.

Mansell could have claimed his third five-wicket haul in a row, but Lutwyche dropped Steve Booth when Cuckfield required four to win. The chance was tough, but easier than the one he had already taken.

Danny Barton bowled 21.3 overs of excellent line and length, Casey Lee '” with his first ball '” and Ben Shelford both took a wicket, but Chris Mole's 41, Tom Mole's 37, and Booth's quickfire 23 took the game away from Worthing.
