Newick 41, Lewes II 5: Newick make most of home advantage

In a re-arranged League match, Lewes - playing with a weakened team due to unavailabilities, and in gale-force conditions - were always up against it, playing a strong Newick outfit who made the most of their home advantage.

With two push-over tries in quick succession from their powerful pack of forwards, Newick went in to an early 10-0 lead, which stretched to

29-0 at the half-time whistle following 3 more tries and 2 conversions.

However, Lewes then made several positional changes which enabled them to come much more into the game in the second half, pressing Newick within their own 22 metre zone for long periods and only conceding 2 more tries and 1 conversion, with a try of their own from Dan Wade, to make the final score 41 - 5. In spite of the one-sided nature of the score, this was an entertaining game played in the true spirit of a local derby.
