There was a record turnout of 75 runners for the fourth annual Hastings Poppy Run on Sunday.
The out and back seafront 5k course starting from Grosvenor Gardens provided a very tough test for the runners as they were buffeted by a strong south-westerly wind on the homeward leg.
Ten Hastings Runners took part, including last year’s winner Patrick Bermingham, who finished a close runner-up to Jack Madden on this occasion. Riz Maslen came fourth overall and first lady, while Andy Knight was fifth and David Bratby sixth.
Timekeepers Nick Brown and Terry Kitson, photographer Helen Brown and race organiser Hazel Fulker all had a challenging morning in the blustery conditions.
Hastings Runners’ times: Patrick Bermingham 19.32 (2nd), Riz Maslen 20.41 (4th and 1st lady), Andy Knight 21.10 (5th), David Bratby 21.37 (6th), Nick Webb 22.35 (10th), Steve Willis 22.37 (11th), Sylvia Huggett 24.48 (13th), Roger Mandry 25.31 (16th), Dayan Bratby 36.04 (55th), Henry Worthington 36.44 (58th).
The event is part of a national series of 5k fun runs in support of the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal.
