Littlehampton fall out of top two

LITTLEHAMPTON Cricket Club dropped out of the top two in Sussex League Division 2 after being held to a draw at home to St James on Saturday.

After being stuck into bat, Littlehampton made 275-4 from just 44 overs. Amit Gupta crashed his first century for the club with 109 off 78 balls with 18 fours and two sixes. Captain Benn Challen added 63 with eight fours and one six and James Askew hit 38 not out.

St James then made 224-7 from 56 overs. Challen took three wickets and Adam Tester two.

Haywards Heath overtook Littlehampton to move into second with their five-wicket success against Sidley.

Littlehampton are now third with Stirlands dropping to fourth after taking 12 points from their draw with Roffey.

Heath now lead Littlehampton by eight points with four games left. Littlehampton host leaders Chichester on Saturday.

In the Invitation League, Arundel lost at lowly Burgess Hill after being bowled out for 124, chasing 177 to win.

Rakesh Parmar took three wickets for Arundel as Hill made 176-5 from their 49 overs.

Adam Ferrier then top-scored with 35 and George Gaskin struck 23 in Arundel's innings.

In Division 4, Rustington drew at St Andrews to take 14 points.

After winning the toss, Rustington stuck St Andrews in and then bowled them out for 262. Mark Page took four wickets for 49 runs.

Rustington finished their reply on 178-7.
