Horhsam Under 16 girls' hockey team top of league

HORSHAM under 16 girl's hockey team has beaten Surbiton to be on the top of the Home Counties league.

In what was an outstanding game, Surbiton scored goal within the first 10 minutes. Horsham responded with a great goal from Issy Wood to equal.

Horsham went ahead, when from a short corner, a clever manoeuvre from Lucy Wood, set up a goal for Jess Dean to finish it off.

Surbiton then drew level again with a break through of Horsham's defence and managed to get past the excellent goalie, Sophie Benton.

With ten minutes to go a great pass from Victoria Trumpess found Captain Louisa Denman who skilfully went through a couple of Surbiton defenders before drilling it in the back of the net for a 3-2 lead.

The team kept its composure and, with Yvonne Grout running the defence, did not allow Surbiton a chance to score another goal.

The Horsham girls have had an amazing year with getting to the final of the National Indoor and now looking very much the favourites to win the South Home Counties League. The team has truly put Horsham's Hockey on the map.
