H&B missed an early penalty kick and a Tom Waring try was disallowed before a strong scrum and more quick hands ended with Alex Vedeux reaching out for his maiden try, converted by Ash Diedericks.

Strong running and passing out of the tackle from H&B ended with Eliot Parry cleverly cutting in for his debut try. Kit Claughton added a third to give the William Parker Sports College-based outfit a 19-0 half time lead.

From a Waring offload, Parry made a strong line break and neat inside chip, chased up by Piers Claughton for the fourth, bonus point try, converted by Paul Sandeman.

Max Foord-Paton added another and Sittingbourne scored one of their own before Ben Campbell completed the win. Third-placed H&B are four points behind second-placed Beccehamian having played an extra game.

H&B: Vedeux, Davies, S. McManus (McDonough), Adams (c), R. McManus, A. Waring (Foord-Paton), Stern (Sandeman), Piotrowski, P. Claughton, K. Claughton, Parry, Diedericks, Campbell, Crosby-Clarke, T. Waring.

Rye RFC, meanwhile, slipped to defeat in their final home game in Sussex One, losing 33-14 to second-placed Eastbourne. A poor first half display from the hosts saw them 19-0 down at the break, but the entrance of Chris Challinor boosted Rye, who had a spell of dominance for 25 minutes.

Though they reduced the score to just six points following a Gary Edmunds try, they just didn’t do enough to get level before Eastbourne added two late efforts to seal victory. Rye drop a place to fourth, behind third-placed Chichester III on points difference.
