H&B mastermind own downfall in home defeat

The unavailability of key players for this vital Kent One game at home to Beccehamian set the day off to a bad start.

And the failure to realise the referee was pedantic about penalising the holding of the ball on the ground and not playing to their strengths contributed to a 10-0 home defeat.

From the kick-off it was clear that Beccehamian had a good solid defence, a sentiment backed up by the fact that the third-placed team has now gone three consecutive games without conceding a single point.

Beccehamian took the lead in the 20th minute with a well-worked try from a five-metre lineout. The throw was short and the prop forward made a strong blindside dash to the line. The try was converted with a good kick considering the conditions.

H&B were working hard and making good progress, but moves broke down because of handling errors and the stout Beccehamian defence.

Beccehamian increased their lead just before half time with a penalty, again awarded for holding on to the ball in the tackle.

The second half was, in all honesty, not a great spectacle. H&B failed to capitalise on the wind that had given Beccehamian their half time advantage and made too many handling errors.

The final outcome was disappointing for the players, coaches and spectators. H&B could have won had they managed to raise their game above the level of dismal.
