Haywards Heath Harrier Kat gets the cream

Haywards Heath Harriers’ Kat Barrett took victory in the Beat the Tide 10km in Worthing last week. Kat has been quietly improving her form this season, undoubtedly helped by her triathlon training schedule.

Marion Hemsworth was well placed amongst the ladies and first in her age group with her time of 53.54. Marion, an inspiration to many runners in Haywards Heath through her J&M running courses, is taking on 65 races in this, her 65th year and started her campaign with the Beat the Tide 10km:

“I am going to attempt 65 events, starting on my birthday August 17 and ending on August 16 2016. Why not! The events can be short – 5k or up to marathon distance. No repeats are allowed so I can’t keep doing the same parkrun week in, week out! So far, I have planned various 10k races, Barns Green Half Marathon, Beachy Head Marathon in October and I have a place in next year’s Virgin London Marathon.

“I wanted to do something to mark my 65th year and to raise money for Crohn’s and Colitis UK - a charity that I have been involved with since 2003 and something dear to my heart. In the UK about 1 in 250 people suffer from either Crohn’s or colitis, yet it is not widely recognised or understood.”

Marion then took on the Henfield Half Marathon on Sunday - an off road, scenic course along the riverbank and disused railway, flint paths & stiles where she finished in 1:59:10.
